Shah Rukh Khan welcomed in New Zealand by Prime Minister John Key

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who is busy on his Temptation Reloaded tour, was greeted by New Zealand Prime Minister John Key on Thursday (October 3) night.

Shah Rukh was given a traditional welcome and presented with an official New Zealand Black Caps cricket shirt in recognition of his love of the game, read a statement. John Key also holds the tourism portfolio.

The Bollywood baadshah thanked his hosts for the warm welcome and talked warmly about his previous visit to the country around 12 years ago. He said his son would be thrilled with the Black Caps shirt, as he is a big fan.

Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan is excited about Limelight Entertainment's Temptation Reloaded, as part of which stars like Madhuri Dixit, Rani Mukerji, Jacqueline Fernandez, Yo Yo Honey Singh and Meiyang Chang will join him on stage.

Key also welcomed Shah Rukh's interest in New Zealand as a potential film location.

New Zealand and India have a co-production agreement and in recent years two Indian productions, I Hate Luv Storys and Players have been filmed in the country.

The prime minister also invited all Indian cricket fans to travel to New Zealand in January-February 2014 when the Indian national team is touring the country, and again in 2015 for the Cricket World Cup 2015.

Currently, New Zealand welcomes around 30,000 visitors from India each year. New Zealand's target is to increase this to 50,000 by 2016. It has identified India as an emerging tourism market that offers significant growth potential.

Tourism New Zealand has also identified the potential for increasing visitor arrivals from India if Bollywood was to again use the country's landscapes as the backdrop to their blockbuster films.

Men and women alter their voices when speaking to lovers versus friends and such variations can potentially be used to detect infidelity scientists say. "It's not just that we change the sound of our voice, but that others can easily perceive those changes," said Susan Hughes, associate professor of psychology Albright college, US.

The study looked at how individuals alter their voices, or engage in voice modulation, when speaking to romantic partners versus same-sex friends during brief telephone conversations.

Researchers recruited 24 callers who were newly in love and still in the so-called honeymoon period. Callers were asked to phone their romantic partners, as well as a close same-sex friend. Researchers then played the recordings to 80 independent raters who judged the samples for sexiness, pleasantness and degree of romantic interest. Raters were exposed to only one end of the conversation and, in some cases, for only 2 seconds. Raters were able to correctly identify whether the caller was speaking to a friend or lover.

Panjab University springs a surprise, beats IITs in global rankings

India has improved its position in the world's definitive university rankings with five Indian varsities entering the top 400 list, up from three in 2012.

Panjab University made its debut in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2013-14 in the 226-250 band followed by two other new entrants - Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and Kanpur in the 351-400 band.

The new entrants join IIT Kharagpur, which slipped from 226-250 into the 351-400 group, and IIT Roorkee, which retained its place in the 351-400 band.
"These results should be encouraging for India: while no Indian institution makes the top 200...India now has five representatives in the top 400 - a sign of growing commitment to the global rankings," said Phil Baty, editor of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

"The drive in India to share more data and to compare its institutions against the trusted, established and rigorous standards set by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings is a great step to improved quality," he added.

The increased representation for India in the rankings has been attributed to a two-day National Policy Dialogue in May on international rankings, when representatives of Times Higher Education were invited to meet with senior university leaders by India's Ministry of Human Resources Development and Planning Commission.

"India is clearly focusing more and more on quality to compete with the world's best. These rankings require a lot of data and in the past this engagement was lacking. Even though the Indian universities have missed out on a top 200 ranking, having five in the un-ranked top 400 list is a strong performance," said Elizabeth Gibney, a rankings expert at Times Higher Education.

Overall, the California Institute of Technology retained its place at the top of the rankings for the third consecutive year, with Harvard University regaining second place (up from fourth), a position shared with the UK's University of Oxford.

Stanford University slipped from joint second to fourth.

Kitchen appliances manufacturer TTK Prestige, part of the Rs 2,500 crore TTK Group, has roped in Bollywood star couple – Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan – as their brand ambassadors.

Prestige is re-introducing the line "Jo biwi se kare pyaar, woh Prestige se kaise kare inkaar" in an advertising campaign with the celebrity couple, the company said in a statement.

To be directed by Amit Sharma, the campaign will see the couple coming together after a long time.

"The decision to bring back the timeless campaign with jo biwi se kare pyaar, woh Prestige se kaise kare inkaar' is significant. Having Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan as brand ambassadors re-emphasises our leadership in the country", said T T Jagannathan, Executive Chairman, TTK Prestige.

"It is the first time that a kitchen appliances brand has chosen a high profile Bollywood couple as brand ambassadors. We are happy to have Aishwarya and Abhishek endorse our brand and help us take the brand to newer heights," said the company's Managing Director Srinivasan Ravichandran.

The company would undertake a print and digital campaign featuring six new TV commercials with the couple, it said.

TTK Prestige offers various kitchen utility products ranging from pressure cookers, non-stick cookwares and gas stoves to electrical appliances and kitchen tools. It has 487 Prestige Smart Kitchen outlets in 238 towns across the country.

The company has manufacturing facilities in Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Gujarat and Maharashtra, the statement added.

The government shut down because a small group of Republicans, led by Sen Ted Cruz (R-TX), insist on linking continued funding to repealing, defunding, or delaying Obamacare. Even many prominent Republicans acknowledge that the request is unreasonable and was destined to close the government. Still, in the last 10 days, the House passed three budget resolutions that undermined Obamacare in similar ways.

Based on CNN and ABC/Washington Post polls, Americans blame House Republicans over Senate Democrats for the shutdown crisis.

They have good reason to think so. The Senate passed a continuing resolution to keep the government funded that maintained the status quo. There was nothing that reversed the consequences of sequestration cuts, and it even cut $200 billion, or 17 percent, from the original proposed budget.

Meanwhile, Cruz and House conservatives demanded a one-year delay of Obamacare just as the uninsured begin enrolling for healthcare on October 1.

While House GOP insisted it was Harry Reid who refused to budge, Republicans have refused Senate Democrats' requests to compromise repeatedly over the last year. Minutes before midnight, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) indicated he wanted to go to conference to address differences between the two budgets. However, Senate Democrats asked for a conference 18 times since April, only to be rejected every time.
